Blockchain Moves from Speculation to Infrastructure: A Structural Reading of the Paradigm Shift and the Next Growth Phase

ブロックチェーンは投機からインフラへ──パラダイムシフトの構造的読解と次の成長フェーズ

A Quiet Tectonic Shift in the Numbers

By April 2026, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) reached approximately $27.6 billion (about ¥4.3 trillion), roughly quadrupling from $6.6 billion a year earlier. Tokenized U.S. Treasuries alone exceeded $15 billion (about ¥2.4 trillion), led by Circle's USYC ($2.9B) and BlackRock's BUIDL ($2.58B). The Bank for International Settlements projects that 10% of global GDP could be tokenized by 2034, while BCG and Ripple estimate the tokenized asset market may reach $18.9 trillion (about ¥2,970 trillion, ~53% CAGR) by 2033. In his 2026 Chairman's Letter, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink remarked that tokenization today is "roughly where the internet was in 1996."

From Selling Tokens to Selling Services

The DePIN market grew to $17.9 billion in 2025, and the World Economic Forum projects it could reach $3.5 trillion by 2028. Crucially, while many DePIN tokens have fallen 94–99% from all-time highs, on-chain annual recurring revenue (ARR) keeps rising. Aethir, a decentralized GPU compute network, generated $166 million ARR in Q3 2025 (about ¥26 billion), and Render Network booked $38 million in revenue in January 2026 alone. Helium, partnering with T-Mobile, secured roughly 600,000 mobile subscribers with $15–30 monthly plans, driving a wedge into U.S. telecom incumbents. Messari's research shows the evaluation framework has fully shifted from token market cap to unit economics and recurring revenue.

Regulation and the Rise of "Invisible Infrastructure"

On March 5, 2026, U.S. banking regulators announced that tokenized securities should not face additional capital treatment merely because they are tokenized. The EU's MiCA regulation became a global reference point for cross-border issuance, and JPMorgan's Kinexys platform now processes more than $2 billion in tokenized transactions daily. As a step toward replacing 1980s batch-based retail payment systems with 24/7 on-chain settlement, Tetra Digital launched a regulated CAD-backed stablecoin (CADD) in Canada. The $1 billion fund Haun Ventures announced in May 2026 also reflects this trend: it explicitly targets payment rails and the agentic-commerce economy rather than consumer speculation.

Success Is Becoming Invisible

The essence of this shift is that blockchain is moving from "the subject of conversation" to "the substrate beneath the conversation." Just as TCP/IP became invisible to its users, the more valuable a technology becomes, the more it disappears from view. What projects are now expected to deliver is not narrative around a token economy but the unexciting fundamentals: churn rates, unit economics, and SLAs with enterprise customers. Having climbed out of the trough of disillusionment, the winners are shedding spectacle and rebuilding themselves as companies judged by revenue and reliability.

  1. Re-pricing the evaluation lens — from FDV to ARR. Investors and analysts now judge projects by annual recurring revenue, churn, and CAC payback period rather than fully diluted valuation of a token. Business plans should be built from day one with the metric set of an infrastructure or SaaS company.
  2. Institutions as the on-chain entry point. Chainalysis data shows a sharp 2026 spike in wallets newly created specifically to hold tokenized assets. The traditional "retail → DeFi → institution" trickle-up has reversed into "institution → RWA → on-chain economy." Japanese firms should target the upstream of this reverse flow: structuring and distributing regulated RWAs and tokenized money market funds.
  3. Strategy of becoming invisible infrastructure. Successful blockchain businesses now create value not through brand visibility but through embedment in legacy systems. Operating as silent infrastructure beneath payments, identity, and supply chains, the winning move is to secure direct integration contracts with established financial institutions and governments — pursuing B2B2C delivery rather than consumer-facing token experiences.
