Logizard Launches Blockchain-Based Common Digital Waybill "Bit Waybill" in Fall 2026 — A Cross-Industry Data Foundation for Japan's Logistics 2024 Problem and Physical Internet Implementation

ロジザード、ブロックチェーン共通デジタル荷札「Bit Waybill」を2026年秋始動──物流2024年問題とフィジカルインターネット実装に向けた業界横断データ基盤

Structure of "Bit Waybill" and Blockchain Utilization

On May 20, 2026, Logizard (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO Shigenori Kanazawa) announced plans to launch "Bit Waybill" in fall 2026. The service manages cargo-specific common IDs as NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) on blockchain, enabling secure sharing of logistics information across multiple companies while maintaining data authenticity and uniqueness. By preserving shipping history and updates chronologically, it also delivers high-grade traceability. As the operator of cloud WMS "Logizard ZERO," which processes over 100 million shipping orders annually, Logizard has continually explored ways for warehouse-side stakeholders to contribute to transport efficiency improvements.

Technology Foundation "ThingsToken" and Joint Research Background

The technical foundation employs "ThingsToken™," a non-financial RWA technology developed by TSE Standard-listed Plat'Home (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO Tomoyasu Suzuki). ThingsToken is an NFT technology designed to record real-world assets (equipment, devices, documents, tickets, etc.) on blockchain, with existing deployments in domestic sake distribution and export, large-scale event participant management, and other fields. The two companies launched their joint research on blockchain technology utilization in logistics DX on February 13, 2025, making Bit Waybill the result of approximately 15 months of joint research. Unlike conventional financial blockchains, the design specifically focuses on handling physical assets (tangible goods) in digital space.

Strategic Context: Logistics 2024 Problem and Physical Internet

Behind the service lies Japan's serious structural challenges in logistics. With the introduction of overtime work caps for truck drivers (the "Logistics 2024 Problem"), failure to act could result in transport capacity shortfalls of approximately 14% (around 400 million tons) in fiscal 2024 and approximately 34% by fiscal 2030. The "Physical Internet Realization Council" — jointly led by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries — aims to build by 2040 a shared transport network in which cargo handled in standardized units flows through optimal routes across multiple companies' logistics networks. Bit Waybill is designed for API integration and supports flexible connection with WMS (warehouse management), TMS (transport management), and delivery management systems. Logizard openly invites participating companies and has clearly positioned the service as a "participant-shared data foundation" that enables sharing of limited transport capacity across corporate boundaries.

[Business Development Insights]

  1. "Non-Financial RWA" Emerges as a New Battleground for Japan's Web3 Implementation: While financial RWA — stablecoins and security tokens — has dominated attention, this collaboration between two TSE-listed companies marks a substantive case in the previously underdeveloped non-financial RWA field targeting "tangible goods." ThingsToken already has deployment records in sake distribution and event management, with future expansion expected into supply chains, parts traceability in manufacturing, product authentication, and secondary markets (resale and reuse). For Japanese companies considering RWA-related business, this represents a field with greater entry opportunity than its financial counterpart.
  2. The "Public Infrastructure-Style Data Foundation" Model Becomes a New Cross-Industry SaaS Trend: Bit Waybill's defining characteristic is its aspiration to become a "flat and highly public service" with participant-shared design — rather than a proprietary closed system. This embodies a design philosophy in which blockchain's intrinsic properties — neutrality, tamper resistance, and authenticity — are best suited to cross-industry data foundations. Beyond logistics, similar "consortium-style data foundation × blockchain" approaches are likely to expand in healthcare, education, government, and construction — domains requiring data sharing among multiple stakeholders.
  3. Logistics DX Reaches a Turning Point from "Single-Company Efficiency" to "Cross-Industry Connectivity": Logistics DX has previously centered on individual corporate efficiency through WMS and TMS deployment, but transport capacity shortfalls from the 2024 Problem represent a structural challenge that no single company can solve. The "common ID × blockchain × API integration" approach symbolized by Bit Waybill forms a standard protocol layer that dissolves inter-company data silos. For trading houses, retailers, and e-commerce operators, this presents an opportunity to shift logistics strategy from "enclosure" to "shared use," with early participation in joint delivery and trunk-line transport sharing significantly affecting medium-term cost competitiveness.
